The Courtyard, Kothrud, Pune

A new multicuisine restaurant in Kothrud. Food Prowl team was invited for an exclusive food tasting here.

Situated opposite to ‘Kheliya’, off Paud road, this place has a classy décor and offer wide variety of dishes in not only Indian but Continental and Oriental cuisine as well.

They have 21 pages long menu with on an average 10 dishes per page. This should give you a fair idea about the options you will have there.

Recommended Dishes: Zuppa Di Broccoli, Corn Cheese Balls, wrapped cottage cheese, Burmese khow suey, Lasooni Paneer Tikka masala, Crispy Honey noodles with Chikki ice-cream

Food: This is a first veg, non-veg place where my recommended dishes list feature all veg preparation. Not that non-veg is not good here. But personally, I loved the vegetarian preparations over non-veg ones. And this has never happened with me before.

Soup:

Zuppa Di Broccoli: A creamy thick soup which appeared like crème of mushroom. But it actually had nice and delicate flavor of broccoli along with corn and mushrooms. Very flavorful and perfectly seasoned with black pepper. I loved this soup.

Starters:

Wrapped Cottage cheese: Paneer covered in batter rolled in ‘shev’ and deep fried. Served in a small plastic wine glass with Sichuan sauce at the bottom. Beautiful presentation. It tasted good with the Sichuan sauce.

Corn Cheese Balls: Another deep fried but delicious appetizer. Not at all oily and had perfect seasoning. These were again served in small plastic wine glasses with chilly mayo to go with it. Only problem was that the dip was put at the bottom of the glass and we could not dip the cheese corn balls directly in the sauce.

Murg Paprika Tikka: A chicken tikka with twist of paprika. Well marinated chicken chunks had a prominent paprika flavor. This was served with mint chutney. Quite spicy and flavorsome.

Butter garlic Prawns: Grilled prawns which creamy butter garlic sauce on it. Prawns were well grilled and straightened for presentation sake. A good amount of butter garlic sauce was put on prawns and was decorated in a way that it resembled a crab. I specifically loved the butter garlic sauce. But I would have loved this sauce on the side instead of on prawns. Too much sauce on the fish sometimes ruin its taste.

Paneer Shashlik: These grilled paneer cubes had mild flavor. Paneer was very fresh and well marinated. It went well with accompanying sauce.

Main Course:

Burmese Khow suey: This was vegetarian preparation. But very delicious. And most importantly it was served with its 7 traditional accompaniments. The coconut flavored soup was nicely thick and creamy. Wok tossed Hakka noodles were laden with burnt garlic. When condiments added to it, this one tasted just outstanding. I would strongly recommend this one for you to try.

Chicken Steak in Rum and Mushroom Sauce: Minced chicken made into a patty and grilled to perfection. It was poured over with rum flavored brown sauce with lots of chopped mushrooms in it and grilled vegetables on side. Sauce was good. Portion size seemed little less for one person.

Lasooni Paneer Tikka masala: I simply loved this dish. Thick flavorful gravy with tender paneer chunks in it. A medium spicy preparation. Delicious. Juglee naan and garlic naan went very well with this.

IMG-6609

Tawa Veg: A semi dry vegetable preparation garnished with chopped coriander. People who like spicy veggies should try this dish.

Lasooni Dal Fry: Another outstanding dish with prominent flavor of garlic. This tick dal not only went well with rotis but also with veg Pulao.

Dessert:

Crispy Honey noodles with Chikki ice-cream: Amazing Dessert. Honey noodles with vanilla ice-cream is no surprise. But what was unique about this dessert was the ice cream served in it. Chikki ice cream is something I tasted for first time. And Oh God!!! I am in love with that flavor now. Do not, I repeat, do not miss this dessert here.

Service: Serving staff seemed pretty well-trained. But the impressive thing was that owner was making sure to visit each and every table and talk to them about experience they were having. He believes that if the guests are facing any problem, it is better to solve it then and there instead of getting to know about it later through their feedback forms or reviews.

Ambiance: Classy. There are very few restaurants in Kothrud which offer this kind of ambiance. The Courtyard just increased that no-so-long list by one. Clean and well-lit dining area. Despite of being an open restaurants, I did not see any mosquito or house flies in there. Well laid tables. Large siting capacity. This is a very good place to party with family and friends.

Value for Money: Yes.
